How to play
Swipe up, down, left, or right on the board, or use the arrow keys (or WASD) on a keyboard. Every tile slides that way until it hits the wall or another tile, and two tiles of the same value combine into one tile worth their sum. Any move that shifts the board spawns a fresh 2, or occasionally a 4, in an empty cell. Keep merging to push your numbers higher, and a run ends the moment the grid is full and no two neighboring tiles share a value anymore.
The tile spawns are seeded from today’s date, so the sequence changes at midnight and everyone starts from the same draw. Restarting mid-run drops you right back into that same daily sequence, so a bad opening is on you, not the shuffle. Your best score and day streak are saved on this device. Nothing leaves your browser.
How it compares to 2048
Nova Merge keeps exactly what made the original catch on: a 4-by-4 grid, one swipe moves the whole board, and matching tiles fuse into their sum. Restarts are instant, so a failed run just means tapping a button and trying again immediately. That loop, one gesture, one screen, one outcome, is the entire game, and we did not touch it.
We deliberately dropped everything mobile ports usually wrap around that loop: theme packs, undo tokens, ads between rounds, and cross-device account sync. The trade-off is honest. Nova Merge is the loop on its own, playable in seconds with nothing to install.
